Team, Account & Project Management
First of all, that mullet is real! Second, read My Story to learn more about my style and knack for relationships. Better yet, contact me and let's talk. Suffice it to say I understand people. I get what motivates them to take action.
As a leader, I'm approachable, detail-oriented, and committed to bold yet attainable goals. I emphasize ownership of projects and performance, because, when teams are invested in collaborative goals, optimal results follow.
I encourage clear communication and attentive listening to nurture productive relationships. At the risk of sounding sappy, I believe if you look a colleague or client in the eye and truly listen to their story, you will embrace their passion for the job at hand. That puts you in an outstanding position to help them achieve great things.
A Piece of Work: The Boat Guy
Back to the mullet. I used to feature my favorite agency project, The Boat Guy with Chip Hanauer, on my campaigns page. They ran out of funding years ago and the project has since sailed (the site is janksville). Nonetheless, it's a good example of my team, account, and project management and an excellent opportunity to namedrop a Seattle celebrity, hydroplane legend, and funny, funny guy.
Chip envisioned an online video series that might catch on with CNN, a la Anthony Bourdain. I thought PBS was more realistic, but "dare to dream" I always say. So Chip and his crew filmed monthly episodes about Northwest boating and the glorious water around us.
My team developed and launched a multi-platform marketing campaign, including responsive website design, social media campaigns, and promotional appearances. We produced PSA videos for the Washington State ferry system and covered Chip at events up and down the west coast. Chip threw out the first pitch at Safeco Field and he was Seafair Master of Ceremonies (I told you he was a legend). I steered creative for each Boat Guy episode, developed marketing strategy, and supervised The Boat Guy social media. I also scripted all pre-recorded and event messaging.
Here's what Chip had to say about me:
“When we worked on The Boat Guy, Cotton was my go-to guy. He captured my voice and dumb jokes and brought the stories together. He was good at walking our team through CMA's process... He'd describe the big picture and technical stuff so everyone knew where it was going, then he'd be there to answer any questions. I'd say he was smart, but he liked to hang out with me, so, y'know... He’s a nice guy though.”
